What's 21+3? This question is an opportunity for the sycophants in the front of the class to raise their hands so fast that they separate their shoulders. For those smarty pants who believe the answer to this query is 24, we are happy to tell you that you're dead wrong. 21+3 is another variation on the game of blackjack that comes from the overly fertile imagination of Derek Webb. This British import was already responsible for the game of Three Card Poker, it is not exactly like he needed to come up with more games to cement his legacy. Regardless of whether it was needed or not, Mr. Webb invented the game of 21+3, and it is becoming more and more common side bet at the world's best casinos.

So let's see how it is played. The 21 part of the name stands, obviously, for blackjack. The 3 is representative of the two cards in the player's hand, and the one face up card in front of the dealer. If these three cards show a small flush, straight, straight flush, or a three of a kind, the player is paid for his side bet at a ratio of 9 to 1. The house has a 3.2% edge on this particular side bet. As far as side bets go, this isn't that much (especially considering there is a whopping 5% on other types of side bets).

A gambler should not try to make a steady diet of playing 21+3, especially when the edge on straight blackjack is much more attractive from the player's side of the table. It does make a nice distraction every now and then though. Kind of like whip cream on top of a Sundae.
