The only way to have a blackjack system that is 100% accurate involves developing telepathic abilities, or dating the dealer. Outside of these unlikely scenarios, blackjack systems are all about probability, and knowing when the odds are in your favor. One of the popular methods of determining when the conditions are right for betting big, or knowing when to give up, is called cluster counting.
Theoretically, cards behave the same way as women heading for the powder room; in other words, they tend to cluster. This seems especially true in a multi-deck shoe. Cards are not evenly distributed, but instead bunched together.
When a new shoe is being played, mentally divide the shoe up into sections that are roughly equivalent to a single deck. While performing these mental gymnastics, note how the cards are flowing.
Now that you have mentally broken the shoe into single deck sections, observe which sections seem higher in aces, face cards, and tens. Give each section a rating, such as good, bad, destitute, etc. Also make a mental note about how the cards are being put into the discard box.
When a shoe has been exhausted, watch the dealer as the new shoe is shuffled. Remember where the high cards had been previously clustered and increase your bets when you get to those sections of the shoe that seem to be a gold mine of high-cards. Obviously your wager will decrease when you reach the sections where the pickings were slimmer.
This is not an easy skill to master, but once you have it down, it can mean more victories at the blackjack table. |
