When most of us think the words "Royal Match", we instantly dredge up images of Princess Diane and the big eared descendant of William the Conquerer that she was charitable enough to call hubby. Our mind also may dredge up the image of Fergie (an athletic young lady who sings for the Black Eyed Peas) and whichever member of the royal family was kind enough to take responsibility for her. Royal Matches in the real world have not seemed to have ended well in recent days. This poor reputation is not something that should spill over on to the blackjack table though.
In blackjack, there are a number of side bets that can be made that have nothing to do with how close you can come to 21. In other words, it is like a wager within a wager, and can add spice to an already good game. One of these side bet options is called Royal Match.
Not many casinos have the Royal Match option available, but for those playing at the venues that do, this can be a very lucrative distraction from the main part of the game. A Royal Match allows the player to make bets in reference to their first two cards. Once the bet is made, you wait for the dealer to give you your first two cards. If they are of the same suit, the player wins the side bet to the tune of 3 to 1. If they are a king and queen of the same suit, the bet pays off 10 to 1. The player gets paid on a successful bet when the dealer's up card is revealed. |
