Simply giving up is not something most people are very comfortable with. Who would have thought the act of running away could actually be a powerful tool in the game of blackjack. Most casinos don't allow a player to surrender. The idea is that once you are engaged in a hand you must stay the course till the bitter end. When used as a strategy instead of something to do under extreme circumstances, surrendering will only leadyour bankroll to death.
Here are the proper conditions for a surrender:
- When playing a multi-deck game, you are holding a 16 that is not made up with a pair of 8s, and the dealer has an upcard of a 9, 10 or ace, this would be a good time to surrender. If you are playing a single deck game, don't surrender against the 9.
- If your cards total 15, and the dealer has an upcard of 10, surrendering could be the right decision too. |
