To continue with the basics of Ultimate Blackjack it requires that you forget, for a moment, the old instincts of regular Blackjack. In regular 21 you play against the dealer, but in Ultimate Blackjack (again, often refered to as Elimination Blackjack,) it is you against the other players, and the dealer is just one of the obstacles you have to beat in order to beat them.
It is easy to see why many pro poker players have taken to the game, such as Devilfish Ulliot, Poker Brat Hellmuth, and Annie Duke. So many elements of tournament Holdem are in play that it is a natural progression. Without further ado, here are the basic rules for UB, or EB. (Note that these rules apply to the tournament and TV show, but can be easily modified for use in a home game. Just change the amount of chips!)
Rule One: Each player starts with $25,000 in play chips - this is also the maximum bet, with a minimum bet being $500. Each player lucky enough to reach final table starts with $100,000 - also the maximum bet. The minimum final table bet is $1,000.
Rule Two: The button goes first, and play rotates clockwise every hand.
Rule Three: 25 seconds are given to all players to make a decision, except on Elimination Hands, where players have 45 seconds.
Rule Four: Hands 8, 16, and 25 are Elimination Hands. The player with the least amount of chips at the end of these hands is eliminated.
Rule Five: Each player has only one Secret Bet.
Rule Six: Hand 30 wins is the last hand, whoever has the most chips wins! |
