Slot machines fall into two categories: straight slot machines, where are machines that have set jackpot payouts according to the machines' payout schedule; and progressive slot machines, which are slot machines with jackpots that are either tied into a bank of machines (more than one machine on a row), a carousel of machines (group of machines on a round platform) or tied into other machines at different casinos.
Progressive slot machines have an electronic board attached to the top of the machine that displays the progressive jackpot. When played, each of the slot machines in the progressive group adds to the progressive jackpot. When a player hits the progressive jackpot, they win whatever dollar amount is listed on the electronic board, some of which might reach into the hundred, thousands, and, in some cases, million of dollars.
However, the thing to remember at such progressive slots is that the odds of winning are about 2% than normal. Then again, since winning at slots is a matter of luck anyway, it doesn’t really matter.
In order to win the progressive jackpot, the player has to bet the maximum bet. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, you would probably be better off playing a progressive slot machine. Although the odds of winning on a progressive aren’t great, there is nothing worse than betting a single coin and hitting the progressive jackpot, only to win a few hundred instead of the thousands of dollars the maximum bet would return. |
