The slang used by the stickmen who run the craps table is colorful, to say the least, echoing the patois of Damon Runyan's classic hoodlums. Here's a sample of the snappy patter you're likely to hear around the rail.

Aces: Betting the next roll will be the total sum of 2.

Ace Deuce: 2-a/k/a Push the Don't, Twice in the Rice, & Two Bad Boys From Illinois.

After Five the Field's Alive: 5-a/k/a Little Phoebe, and Fiver Fiver Racetrack Driver.

Any Seven: A bet that the next roll will be 7.

Arm: A player who is so skilled at throwing the dice they are able to alter the conventional odds of the game.

Buffalo: Placing a bet on each of the Hardway and Any Seven.

Big Red: Placing a bet on Any Seven.

C & E: A combination bet of any craps ("C") and an eleven ("E"); a/k/a chicken and eggs.

Centerfield: 9; a/k/a Ocean Liner Niner.

Craps: 12; a/k/a Box Cars, Midnight, the Apostles, Six Packs, Mule's Teeth, and All the Spots We Got.

The Devil: 7

The Devil Jumped Up: A shooter has sevened out; a/k/a Up Pops the Devil & Grab the Money.

Easy Way: A dice roll of 4, 6, 8, and 10 each die being different from the other.

Eighter From Decatur: When a shooter makes his point number of 8; a/k/a Ozzie & Harriet.

Hardway: Betting on a 4, 6, 8 or 10 thrown as pairs before rolled easy or before a 7 comes out.

Horn Bet: A bet on 2, 3, 11 and 12 with the same amount.

Jesse James: 9; this is because Jesse was shot with a 45 (4+5=9).

Little Joe From Kokomo: 4 the hard ways. a/k/a Hit Us in the Tutu & Ace Trey the Country Way.

Monster Roll: Where numbers and points are coming out, and the 7 doesn't show itself for at least half an hour.

Natural: A throw of 7 or 11 on the come out roll.

Nina from Pasadena: If the point number is 9 and it rolls.

Parley: Increasing a bet, usually double.

Proposition Bets: All one-roll bets and the hardway bet.

Puppy Paws: 10; a/k/a Pair-A-Rose.

Right Betting: Betting the throw will win on Pass Line and Come bets.

Stickman: Casino employee who calls out the dice rolls and returns the dice to the shooter, and who is also responsible for the placing and paying the proposition bets.

Shooter: The player currently rolling the dice.

Sixie from Dixie: 6

Snake Eyes: 2; a/k/a Rat Eyes.

Square Pair: 8 the hard way; a/k/a Windows or Block Fours.

Sunflowers: 10; a/k/a Double Nickels, Venus and Mars & Tennessee Tottie.

Wrong Betting: Betting the throw will not pass on Don't Pass Line and Don't Come bets.

Wager on the Yo: Betting on 11

Winner on the Dark Side: 3

Yo: 11; a/k/as Yo-leven, Yo-levine the Dancing Queen, and Six Five No Jive.
