Outside of the Los Angeles city limits, not many people know the name Shirley Rosario. Those who find themselves at the poker table across from this blonde stranger usually get an education as to who she is very quickly. Those who follow the industry know that Shriley is an immensely talented poker player, and one of the up and coming names in women's poker.
Her beginings were humble enough. Like so many young people, she became a waitress as a way to help pay her bills while going to school. Four nights a week she would serve a cocktail waitress at the Commerce Casino, and during the day she would pursue a teaching degree at L.A. Harbor College.
One can't work at a casino without developing a healthy interest in what goes on at the tables. Shirley became fascinated with poker, and began to learn the game. One of the players she would eventually be mentored by was Steve Badger. He taught her all the ins and outs of Omaha High-Low. She took to the game as if it was hardwired into her DNA, and has not looked back since.
After showing some exceptional skills at the game, she was offered a position as a prop player at the Bicycle Casino. While at the Bicycle, she was also asked to be one of the co-hosts of their live internet broadcast of live Holdem games. As a co-host Shirley shined and the show grew in popularity. Eventually the show was picked up by the Poker Channel and named The L.A. Poker Scene. Life as a television host was not for Shirley though, and she left the Bicycle Casino to focus on game and her website, Poker-Babes. |
