VPTUTOR'S graphics are basic, as are the sound effects. There is no attempt at a graphic representation of a poker machine's hold/cancel keys, nor has there been a serious attempt to reproduce the look of a casino machine. There is a beep when the player is dealt a made hand and a clicking sound as the cards are dealt. The player holds the dealt cards by either clicking on the cards or pressing the 1- 5 keys on the keyboard. The 4 basic games built in are the full pay versions of Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild, Joker Poker (King or better), and Deuces and Joker Wild.
If the player has the tutor on, play stops the moment there is an incorrect draw. If the player selects the 'Analyze Hand' feature from the menu at this point, a table is displayed based on the current hand that shows each possible holding in decreasing order, with the columns showing the number of possible outcomes (for instance with a 2 card draw there is 1081possible outcomes and the total number of each kind of hand that will occur (from garbage to royal flush.) One training feature unique to VPTUTOR is the ability to set the program to only deal the five cards and analyze the draw without ever drawing the cards. This allows players to practice many more hands per hour.
In regard to game analysis, VPTUTOR has been the leader in the field since its initial introduction, and is the favorite of many video poker analysts because it is the fastest available program capable of analyzing a game. The result of the analysis is a table showing the percentage and odds of each final hand with a separate table for bonus quads.
VPTUTOR helps build strategy by presenting a full deck of cards laid out in suits during hand analysis. The players click on the cards they want to select and they can also click to deselect, should they change their mind. Once the player has selected 5 cards the analysis is done and a table appears which helps the player understand how penalty cards affect a hand. The chief drawback is that the player has to rebuild the hand from scratch every time.
VPTUTOR also allows players to modify the payouts for any hand on the basic games and assign bonus values to quads and sequential royals. This allows the analysis of about 90% of the games available.
In summation, VPTUTOR is for those players interested in honing their skills and knowledge and understanding of VP strategy, as opposed to those merely looking for an at-home version of their favorite VP games. |
