When thinking of things that Germany is famous for, the following come to mind quite quickly: Beer, chocolate, bratwurst and sauerkraut. One thing that doesn’t immediately come to mind is casino gambling, though upon examination of the Baden-Baden Casino, it should be.
The Baden-Baden Casino was opened in 1809, and has been through a series of closings and re-openings since. The casino was closed in 1872 by the German government, and was re-opened in 1933. It was again closed in 1944, during the final months of the Second World War. The third, and final re-opening at this point, occurred in 1950, and the casino has been running consecutively ever since.
The casino features 24 table games as well as over 100 slot machines. The aura of history is everywhere, from the case displaying gold and silver chips once used in the casino on festive occasions to antique Chinese vases and golden lattice-work in the Winter Room, the entrance to the casino area. Without a doubt, Baden-Baden Casino is one of the most stunningly beautiful casinos ever created, and holds a much more majestic aire than many of the more recently built gambling houses.
