The Golden Nugget is Downtown’s hottest scene for high-limit action. The 38,000 square foot casino is open daily 24 hours and features 1,320 slots and sixty-eight (68) table games. The Golden Nugget’s clientele attracts mostly those in their thirties or older with money to spare.
The table games include 3 Card Poker (4 tables) Baccarat (1 table) Blackjack( 39 tables), Caribbean Stud Poker (2 tables), Craps (7 tables), Let it Ride (2 tables), Mini-Baccarat (2 tables), Pai Gow Poker (3 tables), Poker (9 tables), Roulette (4 tables), and Wheel-of-Fortune (1 table). The casino offers the whales a high-limit salon and the chance to play serious big money games. All games, including baccarat, are $10 minimum wager. Craps has a 6x8x10x odds. Blackjack offers 3:2 odds.
The Golden Nugget’s selection of slots includes 24 Penny machines, 204 Nickel machines, 510 Quarter machines, 18 Half-Dollar machines, 301 Dollar machines, 37 Five-Dollar machines, 10 Twenty-Five Dollar machines, 209 Multi-denomination machines, and 11 Hundred Dollar machines. Video Poker and Keno are also offered.
The sports & race book has 23 televisions, and one of them's a real humdinger. There is lounge seating, complete with lounge. Although there is no reserved seating, this one of a handful of decent sports books downtown where you can sit and watch a game comfortably. There are seven betting windows with white slate signboards.
The minimum wagers are $5 sports, $2 for racing.
The Golden Nugget is famous for its excellent cocktail service, and if you are playing big money, you can have whatever drinks you want, made out of whatever you call. Otherwise you get well drinks made from the cheapest booze. Be forewarned, the Golden Nugget does not encourage drunken rowdiness. The Golden Nugget’s slot club is okay but not great; with cash back is good for the slots, and just fair for Video Poker. At the tables, you need to play $25 a hand to get noticed for food, $100 for a room and food.
As for the food, the Golden Nugget offers the Carson Street Café, a 24 hour eatery that's a step up from the usual coffee shop; Lillie Langtry, which despite the name, is a very good Chinese restaurant; Stefano's features Italian food and singing waiters; The Buffet is one of the two best buffets Downtown, with Sunday being champagne brunch; Vic and Anthony's is a steakhouse. There is also, of course, a Starbuck's.
The Golden Nugget is AAA approved and also provides it guests with a Video Arcade, Free Parking (With Validation), Free Valet Parking, Gift Shop, Hair Salon, Health Club, Parking Garage and Rates, Spa, an Eucalyptus Steam Room, an Olympic-sized Swimming Pool, Theater, and Valet Parking. |
