If the MGM chain of hotel and casinos was in the movie Star Wars, they would be considered the Galactic Empire. Of course if they were that evil outfit that gave Luke Skywalker and Yoda so much trouble, than out of the entire chain, the MGM Grand in Las Vegas would be considered the Death Star (Seeing as Star Wars is 20th Century and Fox and not Metro Goldwyn Meyers, maybe the whole analogy is in trouble).
This behemoth of a hotel contains over 5,000 guestrooms and suites. Presumably whoever was paid minimum wage to count all the rooms got tired and just gave up when they reached 5000. We do know for sure that it is over that particular 4 digit number. The size of each room ranges from 350 square feet to over 1,500 square feet. In each room, regardless of size, the guest will find one king or two queen size beds (upon availability at check-in) as well windows with shutters, cotton towels, hair dryers, large closets, safes, and other such touches that remind one just how important the small details are. To keep their patrons happy and fully informed about the goings on in Vegas, MGM offers a concierge service. They also offer wake-up calls, 24-hour front desk, round the clock security, laundry, ATMs, daily housekeeping, and currency exchange.
The casino is so large that it is not unusual to find Shirpas acting as guides for some of the more confused patrons. Well okay, that would be unusual, but it would help in navigating the 170,000 square foot facility. The table games offered at the MGM Blackjack, Roulette, Craps, Pai Gow Poker, Caribbean Stud, Let It Ride, Baccarat, and everyones favorite, Hold’em. If you prefer slots the MGM casino has everything from nickel slots for the cheapskates to $500 slots, including progressive jackpots. |
